CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I had an amazing time abroad and wish I could have stayed the whole year. Time few while in London but the memories and friendships made will last a life time. After interning in London, I am considering finding jobs in London and Europe and hopes to move there.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

fair grading, pretty easy classes, once a week 3 hours per class

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

everyone at CAPA was very helpful with whatever need to be done, questions asked, and random advice

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

housing was good. We stayed in the sloan square area which was a pretty nice area and I felt very safe. most necessary items were provided for our stay. I can't complain we did have housekeeping come once a week, but they were really rude.

* Food:

if your near Victoria bus station stop by arm chicken. They have the best chicken donners in the city and they are really cheap. for a medium chicken donner salad and a liter of pepsi is about 5 pounds. Its deff. a filling meal!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

CAPA arranged a few trips, the first weekend there they give a bus tour of the city and a few weekends later to Stonehenge and bath. But they also provide a travel agency that you can book trips with. Be sure to take advantage of these.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Socialized healthcare is awful!! try to avoid going to the hospital, clinics or anything. Health care in London is half what it is in the states. I had to receive a shot twice while I was there, I was very shocked, I had a note from my doctor in the states about my previous shot before I left for London. The clinic did not care to see the note nor did they ask me about any health issues or anything they normally ask in the states. unlike in the states when they administer the shot they alcohol swab the injection area and where rubber gloves, they did not do any of this. it took less than 3 minuets to receive my shot, I'm surprised they even put me in a room to administer the shot, they might as well just have done it in the waiting room.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Understanding Britten

Course Department:
Instructor:
Instruction Language: English
Comments: Cant remember the instructors name, but there were two instructors teaching the same class at different times. Although you can't pick which professor your placed with. I had class with the female professor and I did not enjoy the class. Lectures were boring. I herd great things about this class with the male professor and that was why I took the class. I did not enjoy this class. From what I herd about the other class was much more better than mine. I wish I was able to choose professors.
