By (Secondary Education, University of Pittsburgh - Bradford) for

CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I definitely learned how to be a Londoner. I still feel like I am a Londoner. It made me more sure of myself and the things that I wanted out of life.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was really quite low, except the week of midterm and finals where there were assignments in each class. the grading was fair, the teachers really wanted the students to do well in the classes.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everything about CAPA was wonderful. They were very organized and knew the answers to all questions, and if they did not know they would find out and tell you ASAP.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The neighborhood was wonderful, the location was wonderful, the size was great, there was not enough cookware in the kitchens. There should probably be a vacuum in each apartment. They provided a cleaning service once a week, that was great but 3 rolls of toilet paper is not enough for 5 people for a week. Also the beds were awful. they were like pure metal springs.

* Food:

We cooked alot and went out sometimes.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We went on a trip to Bath and Stonehenge. That was really nice.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I would tell them to break away from the pack sometimes and just do things on your own. If you try to do things in big groups it does not always work out. Also go to the museums they are really great.
