CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Prague, Czech Republic

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I met a lot of international students and got to hear perspectives and opinions from around the world. I also met people from different parts of the United States that I would have never been able to meet but now will have lasting friendships with. I learned all about cultural differences in different European countries and I learned some basic Czech to help me really feel like I was a local and not a tourist.

CEA was always available and ready to help with any issues, and the staff were super nice. I didn't personally do one, but there was an option for an internship and my friends who did those really enjoyed them. CEA had really fun weekly activities like rock climbing, and they also hosted events around the city and fun trips to other cities in the Czech Republic that included really great tour guides. They prepared us really well with an orientation and made sure we felt welcome. I was very happy with the accommodation and the ease the program ran with, which made my experience seamless.

The food in Prague is super cheap and there are student discounts for phone plans and most museums/cultural locations

  • CEA activities were often during class times
  • More advising on the best cell phone options
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Food has less preservatives so you shouldn't buy a lot at once but instead just what you need for the week. You need the ISIC card to get the student plan at Vodafone which is worth it. Definitely learn basic Czech and you'll get by much better. You don't leave tip on the table, you give it with your check.
