CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Prague, Czech Republic

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned so much from my experience abroad. I learned how to travel by myself and I learned about so many different cultures. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything and I think everyone should take advantage of their school's study abroad programs.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were not as difficult as my home university's, but this was expected. I still learned a lot in each class and enjoyed being able to interact with students from around the world.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The CEA administration was very helpful and quick to respond. Multiple times we had minor issues in our apartment and the housing department was very quick to help get the issues fixed.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing I was assigned was very clean and spacious. There were 7 of us in the apartment and it rarely felt too crowded. The location was excellent. We were a 3 minute walk from the National Theatre and about a 20 minute walk from the university we attended and the CEA office.

* Food:

There was a wide variety of food available. There were so many small restaurants that I was unable to try, but the places I did go were very good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Czech people are not the friendliest at first, they like to keep to themselves. However, in stores and restaurants many people spoke English and were very friendly.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not have any experience with the healthcare while abroad, but my roommate had to go to a doctor and said things went fairly smooth.

* Safety:

Regardless of the time of day I felt very safe. Most streets were well lit at night and again people mostly just kept to themselves.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

CEA made everything so easy and they were always so helpful.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
