By Christina K (English, Montclair State University) for
CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Rome, Italy
Yes. It made me realize not only that there is so much more to this world other than the U.S. and our customs, but it opened my eyes to a new lifestyle. It also made me appreciate home a lot more too.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
There was a lot of workload, so I barely had time to travel. I liked being here because I got to have a closer relationship with our professors than I do at my home university. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The computers were down extremely often. The program was small but it was nice having the Greco-Roman students come and make the place more lively and feel like you are apart of a larger crowd. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I love my apart met in terms of location, beauty, appliances, internet, and newness. It was difficult, however, because it was so new that we did not have a lot of furnishings (ie. chairs were dropped off in their box, we had to put them together). We bought some decorations to spruce up the place. |
* Food: |
AMAZING! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
There were not enough trips provided. I would have loved if the program provided trips for other countries as well as more trips within Italy. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
You would think that this country would be a lot more unsafe then it is made out to be. It really isn't bad, you just have to watch your belongings when walking around the city. It is nice that the local pharmacy can prescribe you anything you need medical/health-wise |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Language acquisition improvement? |
Mario. He was a great professor and made language-learning easy and fun. I used the language at least a little bit everyday. A lot of people speak English, but there are also a lot of people that only speak Italian. |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | It is extremely important to be openminded and open yourself up to changes and new surroundings. A student that is open to experience new customs and a new lifestyle would benefit the most from this program. |
