Rome: A Great Semester Past Review
By Zina Z (Sociology, University of San Diego) for
CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Rome, Italy
Yes, I got to live in Rome for 4 months! It was amazing. I had never been to Europe before so I got to travel around and see all these amazing places. I have definitely grown as a person. I have a better appreciation for certain things in life.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I feel that the host university provided adequate teachers, on the same level as those at my home university. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
I feel that CEA did a great job at transitioning us to Rome. They set us up in our housing and are always available if we have any questions. I think the size of the program is perfect. All the staff was really helpful. I think my one problem is that the courses that are listed as available in the summer when you are applying for CEA are not necessarily the classes that are going to be offered that semester. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
My apartment had a great location to CEA, great pizza, gelato, markets, and grocery stores. I felt that it was unfair for 7 girls to live in one apartment when other apartments that housed girls only had 5. |
* Food: |
Great food everywhere! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I loved the trips and activities that CEA put together for the program. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
We lived in a very safe apartment building in a safe area which was really nice. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Language acquisition improvement? |
I practiced the language while ordering food, at the grocery store, on the bus, etc. I did not need to speak the language every day. |
