Life in Rome: So Much More than I Could Have Wished For Past Review
By Kathleen M (ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE/LETTERS., Providence College) for
CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Rome, Italy
Learned how to travel well, learned more about myself, another culture, and made some great friends. I hope to have a job someday that allows me to travel and interact with people from all over the world.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Study abroad was much different from school back home in America. I liked it more here because the teachers who worked with us throughout the semester understood what we wanted to get out of a semester abroad and catered their lectures and activities to us. At school in America things are much more standard, lectures and exams in the classroom and the occasional presentation. Things were much more hands-on here and I really enjoyed it. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Staff was always very helpful and constantly emailed letting us know that they were here to help us. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
In the future, do not put all of the Providence College girls together in one room. I was not pleased to learn that all of the other students went through a housing application process and we were all just placed together based on the fact that we go to the same college. I want to have the same choices and opportunities as everyone else. |
* Food: |
There was no meal plan or food option, we were able to cook for ourselves and cater to our own needs. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
the trip to Campania was a great time |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Rome is a great city to study in, but you do have to be careful. There are people who will take advantage of you if you are not on your guard. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Save as much money as you can before you come, you are going to want to travel and it is getting very expensive |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Language acquisition improvement? |
We had a wonderful Italian class taught by a good teacher and friend, Mario Cacciafeste |
