CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Rome, Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes! I view everything different in my life. Other countries and cultures, America, my life. I am readjusting my career to something that suits me better.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The grading was appropriate for our time availability with traveling.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

They helped me with any questions or issues I had better than I expected. They handled on-site issues as well as issues with my home institution. I don't have any weaknesses to say.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We were in a beautiful true Italian neighborhood, where the other neighbors spoke no English. This really forced us to use Italian more than anywhere else did.

* Food:

We shopped for our own food because it saved the most money. Eating out is good but expensive.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

They put on tons of events for us to do things we would not have known about doing. Do all of the events, they are free and so much fun.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The city was safe when you know how to act.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Buying your books when you get to school and supplying your apartment with hand soap, ect.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

More vocabulary needed to be taught and used in class through speaking and not reading.

* What could be improved?
  • Teaching us Italian better, I can barely speak it.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Do as much as you can, don't leave anything on your list to do. You will feel satisfied. Once you are home you will realize you can't just walk down to some sight as you could when you lived there.
