CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Rome, Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I understand other cultures and learned how to completely find my way in totally foreign countries. I've learned how to be independent yet appreciate my home life. I loved studying abroad and almost didn't do it. I'm SOOO glad I came abroad because I've met great friends and have many laughs and seen just the most amazing things.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I would have preferred more tests/quizes so the grade wasn't reflective of basically just a midterm and final.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The staff is AMAZING!! I love CEA program and staff..everyone was so nice and so accessible and very timely when dealing with housing problems.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Shower barely worked, but staff always had people try to fix it! Too cold in the winter, but maybe I'm just used to a very cozy house.

* Food:

Dining in Trastsevere was amazing but also little diners were good too! La Scaleta near the Pantheon is my favorite.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My program took us to Florence for a weekend and it was so much fun because the whole program went and it was a great way to break the ice at the beginning.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I usually felt safe but a lot of my friends had stuff stolen/pickpocketed on subways and busses so just always zip your purse and hold it close to your body on packed transportation.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Not a lot of people speak English in Italy so it would have helped to learn more Italian or have the course be more intensive.
