CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Rome, Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Absolutely worthwhile, wouldn't exchange my experience for anything.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was not as heavy as back in the United States but this allowed me to truly enjoy the sites in the City of Rome as well as multiple other places I was able to travel to. The teachers were great, flexible and insightful.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The staff at CEA Rome was exceptional. They are always there to help you with whatever you need and are always easy to contact and meet with. Being a small program you really get a chance to get to know everyone in the Administration which was nice because it made everything feel more comfortabel.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

Great food in Rome.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The first trip during orientation to Florence was a great experience and was a good way for all of us in the program to get to know one another.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Have to watch pickpocketing.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Your going to spend a good amount of money.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

Having the ability to speak the language in a city like Rome is very crucial because not too many of the people spoke English. I used the language every day, and I found the more I used it outside the classroom the easier it became to learn.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
