Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The workload was extremely light and mostly in class but gave you a very good description of the history, architecture, ect. of Spain. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The faculty took us on a number of trips, gave us a tour of the city and was their to answer all of our questions. By the end of the program we were all extremely close with on another. They spoke to us in both English and Spanish. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in a residencia universidad, which was an apartment building owned by my host parents but we had our own separate apartment. The neighborhood was safe except for at 3am where there was a man masturbating outside. There was a gate on our door to get in so it was imposible for intruders unless they were buzzed up. We were cooked 3 meals a day 6 days a week and were allowed our own fridge. Cookware was provided for us. We were treated by our host parents like a guest. They would clean for us and allow us into their apartment at anytime. |
* Food: |
We had 3 meals a day 6 days a week and if we went on a trip our host parents would make us sandwiches to take. It was authentic Spanish food mixed with french fries and pasta. We always had salad and soup as well as our main entree. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
We went to Rhonda, Portugal and Granada with our program during weekends and had 3 scheduled long weekends to be able to travel by ourselves. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Americans are way more trusting then Spaniards so a couple people in our program got put into difficult positions. During the day the city is extremely safe but at night, you need someone else to walk with. I didn't need any vaccines to go and the city was very clean. A girl in my program was put into the hospital and our program helped us to work through it. They sent a CEA representative to be with us because we were out of the country. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Language acquisition improvement? |
We had a 1.5 hour long class 2 days a week. The people in the office also spoke to us in Spanish but knew fluent English. Our host parents knew no English so we practiced speaking it everyday. |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | It was a life changing experience and I made the best friends while there. Someone that is shy and afraid to go outside the box should go abroad. You get thrown into a situation with multiple people that are in your same position and have a blast! |
