An Amazing Adventure! Past Review
By Angella Barton (Stonehill College) - abroad from 09/04/2019 to 12/06/2019 with
CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Sydney, Australia
I gained a lot of independence, and I also added a unique attribute to my resume because of my international internship. It was definitely worth it!
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes were thorough enough that I was able to learn a lot, but professors clearly understood that we were in the country to travel, and we certainly had enough time to balance school and fun activities! |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
We lived in a spacious hotel/apartment setting that was in an excellent location to our classes, as well as grocery stores and the beach. |
* Food: |
Food was not as tasty as it is in the US, but it was cheap if you bought food at the grocery store to cook at home. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
People were willing to chat with you about American and Australian culture and were very welcoming. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I did not personally have any experience, but a friend of mine needed to access a hospital because he was sick. He was treated very well and CAPA took care of the bill. |
* Safety: |
It was a very safe place to live! Friends and I could walk around at night without an issue, but obviously advising certain safety precautions is a must, as is in any country. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I loved my program, so if I had to make the decision again to study abroad I would love to go through CAPA again! I just might be swayed to pick a different location now that I have been to Sydney. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Sydney is an expensive city, but paying for things wisely will help you save money. I was spending roughly 100-150 a week on food |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | I was there for three months and probably spent about 2k on food for the whole time. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Learn to cook! Cooking food at home saves you tons of money, because eating out frequently will add up. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I spent more money on souvenirs and on trips! I was trying to be smart with my money, and I still went on trips and bought myself things, but I wish someone had told me to just spend the money because its a once in a lifetime opportunity and I might as well do it |
Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Academic or LinguistYou went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you! |
