CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Sydney, Australia

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Connecting with so many people each day from all around the world. I was really able to get more of a global connection during my time abroad and learn more about the world as a whole instead of just the country I live in.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I really enjoyed attending the University of Technology Sydney in Australia for my semester abroad. I was able to directly enroll into the University while going through the CAPA program as well and had a really amazing experience.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The CAPA administration in Sydney was so great!! Everyone I met at the CAPA center was very friendly and welcoming when we first arrived until the day we left.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I really enjoyed where I lived. I went through the UTS housing and was 10 minutes away from the University right in the city.

* Food:

The food was phenomenal! So many great options and very close to my apartment which was very convenient.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Everyone was so friendly, welcoming and curious as to where I was from and why I am in Australia.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I felt very comfortable with the health facilities in place on my campus and I was able to get treatment when needed.

* Safety:

I felt extremely safe in Sydney and had no worries about my safety being compromised.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Studying abroad was by far the best decision I have ever made and done for myself. I highly recommend taking this leap and going abroad for a semester...you will not regret it.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It all depends on what you decide to spend your money on. I won't lie, you do need to budget and not just freely spend your money because you are there for an extended amount of time.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $200
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I worked a lot in the summer leading up to me leaving and saved everything. I worked as much as I could and didn't spend a lot of money a couple months leading up to me leaving as I wanted to save my money for my time abroad.
