What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The experience was extremely worthwhile. I gained an appreciation for a new culture, for a different education system, and for the material I was studying. I also learned some independence and through the experience gained more confidence.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

This program was challenging but fun and exciting. There were resources available and people willing to help. All of the courses I took were interesting, enjoyable, and they each challenged me in a positive way.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The people in charge of the program were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and generally wonderful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was great! It's one of the nicer dorm-type situations most college students will experience, the Junior Common Room was wonderful along with the full kitchen.

* Food:

There was a full kitchen and plenty of space to make your own food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Academically I felt that I was immersed in the Oxford style of learning. I did not have a chance to meet that many other Oxford University students outside of CMRS because I was often busy, however I had time to meet many great people and I had time to travel. I got to know the town and the way of life in Oxford really well.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not need healthcare while abroad however I know that I had international insurance and that there was a doctor available with whom anyone could make an appointment.

* Safety:

Oxford is really a very safe place. Any time you're in any new city you have to use your common sense and be safe, however I never felt uncomfortable in Oxford.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Make yourself a budget and use common sense. Tescos is a cheaper grocery store with good variety.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The city of Oxford was wonderful
  • The academics were great as were the tutors
  • The travel experience was awesome
* What could be improved?
  • CMRS is a wonderful program that will surely improve any aspect that it deems in need of improvment.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? There's too much that I've learned to answer this question. The short version is: you have to live to find out. If you knew everything before doing something, then it wouldn't be worth doing. It's ok to explore, even if you're afraid.
