About
This is an in-country hands-on program with provided shared housing and local team support.
Deepen your understanding of plant science and sustainable agriculture through hands-on research and experimentation in Thessaloniki, Greece. This internship provides biology, agronomy, and biotechnology students with the opportunity to work alongside experienced researchers in modern laboratories and experimental fields focused on horticulture, plant breeding, and molecular applications in crop science.
Program Overview
Interns will participate in diverse agricultural research initiatives that blend laboratory and field work. Projects may include studies on horticultural practices, vegetable production, genetic improvement, plant pathology, and molecular applications in crop research. Participants will gain a holistic view of plant science, from controlled laboratory analyses to open-field experimentation, while collaborating with professionals engaged in cutting-edge agricultural innovation.
Interns will receive direct supervision from academic and industry researchers with international expertise, ensuring a supportive environment for both scientific learning and professional development.
Key Learning Experiences
- Vegetable Production & Horticulture: Acquire hands-on experience in managing vegetable crops, applying greenhouse techniques, grafting, irrigation systems, and performance evaluation under different cultivation methods.
- Plant Breeding & Improvement: Learn to identify desirable traits, perform controlled pollinations, and evaluate progeny using modern tools such as marker-assisted selection and phenotypic screening to enhance yield, quality, and stress tolerance.
- Molecular Approaches in Plant Science: Practice core molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and gel electrophoresis. Learn how molecular markers are used for genetic diversity studies, species identification, and breeding applications.
- Field Experimentation & Agronomic Trials: Contribute to the design and implementation of field trials, collect and analyze data on plant growth and yield, and apply statistical software to interpret experimental results.
- Plant Pathology & Crop Protection: Study plant–pathogen interactions, conduct pathogen isolation and microscopy-based diagnostics, and explore integrated disease management strategies focusing on resistance and biological control.
