An Amazing Experience Past Review

By (Economics, Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/20/2016 to 05/12/2016 with

CET Prague

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about different cultures and alternative perspectives on the world and historical events. I learned that your attitude effects your experience in no matter what your doing or where you are.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Academically this program was not very demanding. The professors expected students to complete the readings and participate in class discussions but both were very manageable. The grading was very easy.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The staff at CET Prague are awesome! They are very friendly and were always looking for ways to heighten my experience, whether it be to offer advice or organize more trips.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The apartment was fairly nice and in a good location. Mine personally was not as centrally located as the others in the program but it was right next to a metro station which completely made up for that. The rooms were big and well furnished.

* Food:

We had to fend on our own for food but everything was very cheap and affordable and there was enough equipment in the apartment to cook with.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I definitely felt like an outsider, but people were generally friendly.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I became sick multiple times during the program and I was seen within hours of calling the clinic and given medication immediately.

* Safety:

I never felt unsafe in Prague.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I picked Prague largely in part for how cheap it is there.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $70

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Beginner
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? None
How many hours per day did you use the language?
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Just use it as much as possible when out and about. Locals will appreciate your efforts.
