What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned to navigate and travel on my own. It was worthwhile.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was not too intense which was nice. But I did like the topics so I could supplement my academics with my own research. They had all the materials available and were very accommodating.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Super helpful and really nice people

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

It was a little small especially the kitchen. It would have been nice to stay in an area more immersed with the locals rather then next to other people in the program.

* Food:

Its Czech food. Meat and bread heavy, only seasonings were garlic, salt, and a sprinkle of paprika.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I really got to know my Czech roommate and do cultural activities which were very nice. I think there should have been a bit of information on volunteer activities which would have helped cultural immersion.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Healthcare was great. When I was sick I was able to see a doctor within 24 hours and got reimbursed very quickly.

* Safety:

Safest place I have every been, especially at night as a woman.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

It was a nice program and the staff were really great.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It was very cheap there.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? depending on the week less then $50
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Just be mindful of what the price is but also don't completely skimp. You're only here once, live a little.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

We had classes every week and had to do additional activities solely in Czech

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Beginner
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? I was new to the language
How many hours per day did you use the language?

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
