Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The professors there are very talented are very knowledgeable. Exams are on the difficult side and there is a lot of competition with the local students. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
They kept the students up to date about events and sufficiently informed us about registration for classes. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in a flat with 6 rooms, mine being a triple. One roommate was from Sweden and the other a local student. I lived in the International House.

The I-House is on the far side of campus and there are treacherous stairs that the students had to climb several times each day. |
* Food: |
On campus dining had a lot of selection; it is not buffet styled like the US; we are given a large list of options and order from there. Food is also very cheap on campus, around 4-5 US dollars for a large meal. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The program had very few events arranged for students. However, students generally grouped together to form trips all around Asia. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Hong Kong takes health very seriously. During the beginning of the outbreak of H1N1, all elevators, escalators, etc. were cleaned several times each day. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Food and travel is pretty cheap in Hong Kong. However, there are expensive restaurants and taxis can add up. I would say I spent less than 60 or 70 US dollars a week on an expensive week. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | Fluent |
Language acquisition improvement? |
I learned many more characters of the Chinese language. |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | If you want to experience the general "study abroad" experience, then I advise not taking very many/very difficult classes at any university in Hong Kong. |
