Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes in my summer abroad program were very small and personal. I loved being able to have small group conversations about what we were learning.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program was amazing! The school closed early which was the only negative because we did not always have access to group work spaces and ended up going to local cafes and restaurants to work on projects.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My housing situation was perfect. I was about a 20 minute walk from the CIEE building, but I was living near other students. I never once felt unsafe in my neighborhood. I was far from some of the nightlife, but I was close to a large shopping center. My host family treated me like one of the family. I was invited to the school play for my Senora's grandson which was amazing! I love them and still keep in contact.

* Food:

My host mother was very willing to accommodate my preferences, however she didn't make a wide variety of foods. She worked around my schedule to make sure meals were served when I was able to be home.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My program arranged 4 trips to other places. The best was a trip to Morocco where we got an amazingly interesting and educational tour. It was very engaging. Sevilla is the perfect place to experience culture. The locals are overly friendly which allowed me make friends and practice my Spanish more than I ever imagined.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

One of my friends got sick on the program, but CIEE was very willing to help him out. Another friend got robbed, and she had the support of the program leaders immediately.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Everyone that worked for CIEE encouraged us to use English as much as possible. I loved the program, especially because we received so much support from the teachers and guides in regards to our language development. We also received an intercambio, who was a Spanish student who served as a resource for us. It was nice to have someone to hang out with that spoke Spanish rather than just hanging out with American students everyday.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The people I was with and the people I met while I was there.
* What could be improved?
  • Nothing, it was fabulous.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? This program was amazing! The internship was outstanding because I was constantly communicating with locals, but if you have time to go for longer than a summer, go.
