By (PSYCHOLOGY., Providence College) for

CIEE: Seville - Liberal Arts

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I am so glad I had the opportunity to go abroad. The experiences I had were incredible, and I would highly recommend it for any student that has the chance to do it.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload for CIEE courses was much more difficult than the Cursos Para Extranjeros offered at the University. In University classes, students generally only had a midterm and final, while at CIEE there was nightly homework, essays, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Although it was a very big program, everything was well-organized, the staff was helpful, etc. They were available to help with medical problems, housing issues, and any other problems students had. They organized lots of excursions and social events as well.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived with a senora, she prepared all food, did laundry, and I lived in a great location. I had an American roommate, and the two of shared a floor to ourselves with our own bathroom.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Granada overnight with everything included (food, hotel, transportation), party for students and teachers on the last night,

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I always felt very safe in the city

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Be prepared to spend a lot of money, especially when traveling and going out at night. Drinks are expensive

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Teachers, my host senora, locals (the majority of them did not speak English)

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? This is a great program and city to study abroad in. If you are looking for a city that is authentically Spanish but still has all the benefits of a big city, Seville would be perfect. It has great nightlife, is absolutely gorgeous, even the weather is amazing. I would highly recommend it.
