London Opened My Eyes Past Review

CISabroad (Center for International Studies): London - Semester at the University of Westminster

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely worthwhile. I understand so many more walks of life now and see how big the world really is. I already wanted to travel the world but this just confirmed my dreams and taught me that it's worth it. I'm going to travel as much as possible now and experience as much as possible.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I appreciated the differences in teaching styles in England. I felt that the professors were much more involved as well and really wanted us to learn.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I thought most of the program was great. The only thing I thought should have been better was the social program. For it being mandatory in cost I felt that they could have taken us to do more things around London or the United Kingdom.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I didn't need to buy anything upon arrival which was very nice. Sheets, pillows, towels, and cookware were included. The location was also great, very close to the tube station and close to anything you could need.

* Food:

I just didn't care for the English food in general so I cooked most of my own meals.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

As I previously mentioned, the social program itself could have been improved.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I never once felt unsafe or as though I had something to be worried about. I used the buddy system every time I went out, especially at night so that helped.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
