What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned to rely on myself and be alone. It was so worthwhile just to explore and immerse myself in my family's culture

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I loved the people I was with and the team that led me. I suggested the same program to my sorority sister who also went with CIS and loved it!

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Get a job before you go so you have spending money. Don't spend money on flights to big places -- go on smaller adventures with less money for flights and you get to see non-capital cities and get a more authentic experience. I never spent more than 80 quid on flights round trip.

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Excursions/Trips
  • People
  • Classes
* What could be improved?
  • More dinners/events with the program and people in it
  • More introductory bonding once we got there to get comfortable with the other people in the group
  • Faster translation of credits
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I had maybe gone with a friend so I could have planned trips in advance, or had saved up more spending money. I spent a bit of time being lonely and wanting to go out more but I worried about class and grades when it turned out I didn't have to. I could have been out every night and I would have passed -- I thought I was getting a number grade. Whoops.
