A Semester of Personal Growth Past Review
By A student (Mass Communication, Truman State University) - abroad from 01/14/2013 to 04/25/2013 with
College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS): Salzburg - Salzburg College
I learned a lot about independent travel. It was worthwhile because I was able to focus on classes that dealt with my major.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
This program is academically intensive. I spent many hours on my courswork rather than traveling or using time to spend with friends. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Helpful, but there needs to be more people working at the College. Two members on the staff is a little bit too small for the amount of work needed to be completed. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I wish I would have been placed with a host family. I was disappointed that this arrangement could not be made due to the lack of house families that wanted a male student. |
* Food: |
The dorm could have offered more of a selection of fruits and vegetables at dinner. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt like I should have met more native Austrians and developed deeper relationships with them. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I did not use this service while here. |
* Safety: |
Salzburg is very safe |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Salzburg in general is expensive. It was more costly to live in student housing. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 45 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Shop at the discount grocery stores. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
In the class room it was encouraged, but outside I didnĀ“t not really develop my skills. |
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | Beginner |
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Beginner |
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? | None |
How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
