About
The Spanish Language and Culture January Term Seminar is hosted by the International College of Seville (ICS) and is designed for students wishing to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Spain, and its culture and language. For over three weeks students will live with local Spanish hosts in Seville, enroll in intensive Spanish language courses, and participate in cultural activities such as flamenco shows, cooking classes, city walking tours, boat cruises, tapas-tastings, and even a special New Year’s Eve dinner celebration. Faculty members, as well as local guides and specialists, will deepen students' understanding of the language, people, customs, and culture of Spain in a hands-on experiential learning. The ICS has been welcoming international students since 1982. Its campus is located in the traditional “El Porvenir” neighborhood and borders the Maria Luisa Park near the center of the city, with easy access to the many cultural and historical attractions of Seville. In addition to the historical sites such as churches, palaces and museums, Seville also has modern transportation, excellent restaurants and hotels, numerous theaters and state-of-the-art sports facilities. The program provides an excellent introduction for students planning to work in fields requiring a thorough knowledge of Spanish language and culture. As part of the experiential learning opportunities offered students will enjoy cultural activities, such as city visits to the Royal Palace of the Alcázar, the Cathedral, Plaza de España and Plaza de América, and the ancient Islamic and Jewish quarters; a daytrip to historic Cordoba and an overnight trip to the city of Granada.
