Best Time Ever! September 13, 2024
By Emma P (Business Analytics, Siena College) - abroad from 06/24/2024 to 07/20/2024 with
CYA (College Year in Athens) - Semester/Academic Year Program
I learned not only a lot about the Greek and Danish culture, but I also learned a lot about myself. I learned that I can be independent in a country by myself and also how to structure myself in a way to get everything done and see everything I wanted to see.

Tasting Culture as my summer class was such an amazing experience. With the opportunity to try a bunch of different foods and learn about the background and culture behind food was so interesting. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
If you are eating lunch at CYA, getting a quick coffee, and being mindful of what and where you are eating, you could easily spend $10 a day on food per week. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $100 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Try grocery shopping for breakfast if you like a lot of food in the morning, eat lunch as CYA, and switch between going out for dinner and making stuff at home. Another good idea is splitting food with roommates like pizzas or something. |
