It was worthwhile and I learned a lot about myself. Asher H - Middlebury College View Entire Review
This program was extremely worthwhile for my education as a student, as global citizen and as an American. I learned that the world is a small place and we all have an integral part in making it a better place. No matter your location, your background or cultural heritage each person influences others in very unique ways. Phil T - Messiah College View Entire Review
I have become comfortable in Athens and Greece as a whole. Because of the sheer amount of time spent in Athens with the program, I ended up better prepared to pursue long-term research in the country. CYA was really the only way for me to get an introduction to living and researching in Greece, so that much was worthwhile. Howev... A student - Brown University View Entire Review
It was completely worthwhile. I learned how to be more independent and I loved living in Athens. I met some interesting new people and I adored having a very different experience from Wellesley, where most of my education occurred outside the classroom. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It was eye-opening to move to such a different culture, and I grew a lot from this experience. All the financial and political turmoil Greece is currently going through gave me a new perspective on my own culture and how the US fits into global politics. Yes, I learned a lot about a part of the world I was not very familiar with and had a good time. I liked Greece but I love other places that I've been more. But my time away was well spent! Yvonne G - Pacific Lutheran University View Entire Review
Absolutely. It completely changed my academic plans: I was wavering between the future path of my double major, but after my courses and living in the actual world that I was learning about, I was able to make a decision for Anthropology and the fact that I want to live abroad as an adult. Most definitely, hands down, the most worthwhile investment I ever made. Gina G - The Catholic University of America View Entire Review
YES it was worth it. I made sure of it. I loved Athens and I am extremely passionate about classical studies. I was just disappointed that College Year in Athens was not there to help me on my journey. It was poorly run and organized. But I had an incredible time. I want Tulane students to go to Athens but perhaps there are diff... Jenny L - Tulane University View Entire Review
Absolutely. Everything is worthwhile. One should learn from everything, and I certainly learned from this. Katherine F - Wellesley College View Entire Review
My study abroad experience was fantastic. I absolutely loved it and I am so glad I decided to go to Greece. I'm a classics major so it was really rewarding to go to Athens, where so many things happened in the classical world. Every day I saw the Acropolis from my school and that made it even more breath taking. This is my 3rd... Caitlin S - Austin College View Entire Review
My study abroad experience was definitely worthwhile. I made many great friends from all different backgrounds (two of my best friends were a biochem major and a finance major). I almost feel as if I am an honorary Greek. I learned the importance of taking time to smell the flowers, essentially, and that Greeks do what they want... I left my heart in Athens. In four short months I fell irrevocably in love with Athens, with Greece, and as a result, with CYA. Living in Greece at such a tumultuous time challenged me to think in ways I never would have imagined, and opened my eyes to the world. The academics aren't stringent, but no one wants them to be - b... A student - College of the Holy Cross View Entire Review
I learned a lot about myself, and what I am capable of by pushing outside of my comfort zone. It was definitely worthwhile and an experience I will never forget. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
It was extremely worthwhile. I didn't know that much about Greek culture before going there, and it was so amazing being emerged into a completely unfamiliar culture. I also learned how to be much more independent, having gone without knowing anyone in my program. I had to learn how to manage my money and time, as well as deal w... I learned a lot in my classes that will be useful for my major. I gained a lot of good friends and experiences. I do think it was worthwhile because I did experience so much, good and bad. I would pick a different program in the end for better support, but I wouldn't pick different peers or country. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
It was more than worthwhile. I cannot explain it in words. It was one of the best experiences of my life. If i could have stayed for year, I definitely would have stayed. Kelsanah K - Middlebury College View Entire Review
Being abroad broadened my perspective of people and cultures. It was nice to be out of the Christian bubble and interact with people who don't always agree with you. Saw and learned much Nick C - Point Loma Nazarene University View Entire Review
I really just learned so much, I loved the hands-on experiences at the sites. Bri D - DePauw University View Entire Review
Yes. Great opportunity to learn more about the world and your place in it. Charleen W - Wellesley College View Entire Review

I wish that my expectations of the students had matched reality. The program itself was very good and rewarding, but the students and their behavior detracted from my experience. I definitely feel like my time in Athens and Greece was worthwhile and I learned a lot and got to do and see things that have changed my life, but I wa... Best thing I've done in college. Hands down. Stephen M - Tufts University View Entire Review
Absolutely! My only regret is not staying longer. I am a better human and a better American for going abroad. I learned about family and hospitality from the Greeks. As bad as things are over there, the warmth they something they don't lack. I highly recommend this program. GO CYA!! Leandra L - Wellesley College View Entire Review
About
The CYA curriculum comprises a diverse set of courses taught by expert faculty. A strong emphasis is placed on both contemporary and ancient studies, focusing on European and East Mediterranean Area Studies. Courses are taught in English, but language courses (Modern and Ancient Greek, Latin) are also available. Classroom lectures are complemented by volunteer/internship opportunities, onsite courses and field study to major historic and contemporary sites in Athens and to various parts of Greece (included in tuition).
During CYA’s semester program, students partake in four field study trips, three in Greece and one abroad. CYA’s field study, guided by expert faculty, enriches your studies with diverse itineraries tailored to students’ academic interests. Experience your classes in a real-world context by exploring the rich political, historical and geographical ties that connect Greece to wider Europe.
In addition to the academic program, CYA encourages students to become involved in extracurricular activities and explore the Greek culture and life independently on weekends. Our ultimate goal is for students to return home academically empowered, intellectually stimulated, and with a passionate commitment to furthering international and intercultural understanding.

CYA (College Year in Athens) Scholarships
The CYA Board of Trustees has set aside funds for supplemental scholarships for academically qualified students who would otherwise not be able to attend. Scholarships for students applying for a semester or academic year are customarily awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to approximately half the amount of tuition. These scholarships are intended as credit against CYA fees and should not be used to reduce the financial aid package awarded through the home institution. Since CYA scholarships are given as an adjustment in the program fees, rather than as funds received by the student, they may cause a reduction of the student's demonstrated need. Often this means that a scholarship from CYA would not be beneficial because it would cause an equivalent reduction in the amount of financial aid awarded by the applicant's home school.
