I learned so much about Greek culture and made wonderful friends! A student - University of Southern California View Entire Review
I gained a real deep understanding of Greek culture, which I believe most Americans don't actually know much about. I made strong local friendships. I witnessed political and social issues unfolding around me and really felt like a global citizen. I also learned that I want to live in Europe after I graduate college! I learned a lot about both ancient and contemporary Greek, and Europe in general, history. I learned how to integrate into a different culture and to appreciate the differences in life style. I also made some life long friends. A student - Reed College View Entire Review
I gained a sense of independence. I made myself uncomfortable so that I could achieve the ability to find ways to make myself comfortable. I think this experience showed me a lot about who I am. I would 100% do it again if I could. Nora G - DePaul University View Entire Review
I wouldn’t trade my semester at CYA for anything. The academic classes were engaging and integrative, and the friendships I made have been long-lasting. I would recommend this program to any student looking for an immersive and enriching study abroad experience in a beautiful country. A student - Columbia University View Entire Review

I gained an awareness of Greek culture, made mistakes along the way (transportation, money, language, etc), and I made lifelong travel friends. I got all I wanted out of this experience and got to truly know Greece in a special way! A student - Valparaiso University View Entire Review
I learned a lot about how other people live their lives. Specifically, I learned how simple and slow paced people live their lives. I also learned how to be more independent and engage with new people. It was for sure worthwhile! Yazmine G - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Going abroad really made feel more like an adult since I had to navigate a completely different culture. Being at CYA was definitely worthwhile, the students were amazing and the trips CYA planned were so much fun. Many students travel around Europe but never get the opportunity to explore Greece. The field studies were an amazi... A student - University of Southern California View Entire Review
I feel much more confident traveling and generally being a person on my own. I would go again 100% A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned that life should be taken in stride. We are so stressed and anxious about problems in our lives that we forget what it means to live. We forget that joy of existence, the potential. I learned to look at people as inherently good who can be misguided by their daily stressors. Once those stressors are removed, people can... A student - Cornell University View Entire Review

My name is Amira and I was in the CYA program for the winter semester in 2023 and it was an unforgettable experience. Oftentimes individuals travel because they believe they may ‘find themselves’ and I believe that as a person you do not find yourself, you make yourself. Being part of the CYA program helped give me the tools to ... Amira H - DePaul University View Entire Review

About
The CYA curriculum comprises a diverse set of courses taught by expert faculty. A strong emphasis is placed on both contemporary and ancient studies, focusing on European and East Mediterranean Area Studies. Courses are taught in English, but language courses (Modern and Ancient Greek, Latin) are also available. Classroom lectures are complemented by volunteer/internship opportunities, onsite courses and field study to major historic and contemporary sites in Athens and to various parts of Greece (included in tuition).
In addition to the academic program, CYA encourages students to become involved in extracurricular activities and explore the Greek culture and life independently on weekends. Our ultimate goal is for students to return home academically empowered, intellectually stimulated, and with a passionate commitment to furthering international and intercultural understanding.

CYA (College Year in Athens) Scholarships
The CYA Board of Trustees has set aside funds for supplemental scholarships for academically qualified students who would otherwise not be able to attend. Scholarships for students applying for a semester or academic year are customarily awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to approximately half the amount of tuition. These scholarships are intended as credit against CYA fees and should not be used to reduce the financial aid package awarded through the home institution. Since CYA scholarships are given as an adjustment in the program fees, rather than as funds received by the student, they may cause a reduction of the student's demonstrated need. Often this means that a scholarship from CYA would not be beneficial because it would cause an equivalent reduction in the amount of financial aid awarded by the applicant's home school.
