A close looking about Japanese history and Japanese universities. Also, I achieve some improvement in Japanese and wanted to keep studying it in the future. Xinru L - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned a lot from Japanese culture and from its language components. I learned while abroad that its hard to just travel to Japan and be a tourist. Therefore learning how to live in Japan and make friends with locals was the most worthwhile aspect of the program and well worth the effort. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned how to be a global student and traveler. Definitely worthwhile; best experience of my life. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile! I learned a lot about Japanese culture and history and I loved being in Kyoto. There are a lot of shrines and places to visit and it's just a day's journey from other popular sightseeing areas like Nara and Osaka. I also had a great homestay experience and felt very comfortable living in Japan. KCJ... A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
My future plans definitely, without a doubt, include returning to Japan. Cecille d - Barnard College View Entire Review
I made a lot of new friends. I learned so much about japanese culture that I wouldn't have been able to learn from the textbooks. Margaret T - Barnard College View Entire Review
Extremely. It gave me much more confidence in myself, and really helped my language ability. Lauren I - Tufts University View Entire Review
I feel a lot more independent. I am glad I travelled on my own during Fall break. The program gives you boundaries and a sense of direction . Whatever you do on your own time, outside of school, should break all boundaries. Melissa L - Barnard College View Entire Review

I learned what I have to sacrifice to get what I want. As a student abroad, it was my decision that brought me there and only my effort could make it a good experience -- who in Japan was really going to take responsibility for my happiness? (no one). So I learned a lot about being humble, speaking up, creating plans, being proa... Sarah R - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained a new appreciation for America. I gained a new perspective. It was worth it. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained more confidence in my abilities to speak Japanese and hold a conversation with native speakers. I also made a lot of great friends that I will keep in touch with. I would not trade the experience for anything. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review

Amazing memories, great friends, and a ton of new kanji! Definitely worth it! Mary R - Barnard College View Entire Review
Absolutely. I think I'm more courageous and adventurous after my semester abroad. I have a much broader understanding of Japanese culture. It reinforced my academic interests. I am now considering the JET program, which I had little interest in before going to Japan. Carter R - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I came out of the experience understanding just so much more of how Japanese society runs. My interests are not just about popular culture anymore, but now more about the people and their lives. I became really fascinated by the gender, foreign/native, racial and class struggles within Japan. I really love the Japanese language... Annie T - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Yes, my study abroad experience was definitely worthwhile-- overall I had a great time. I loved my host family, the friends I made on the program, and getting to know Kyoto. I really enjoyed getting to know a completely new and different culture, and getting to apply and really improve my Japanese skills. Briana B - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Yes I found it very worthwhile. My language ability improved dramatically and I gained an understanding of the local culture that would have been impossible had I not gone to Japan. It also gave me a new outlook and forced me to challenge myself by having to use Japanese even when I wasn't fully confident to do so. tufts611 - Tufts University View Entire Review
