Copenhagen is an Amazing City Past Review
By A student (Finance and Financial Management Services., Bentley University) - abroad from 08/18/2012 to 12/18/2012 with
Copenhagen Business School: Copenhagen - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I got to learn a lot about myself and how to live on my own. CBS did not give much help and there was really no campus like Bentley, so it was up to the student to be independent and figure things out for themselves. The city has so much to do and is unlike any other city I have ever been to. It was definitely worthwhile and I recommend going to any student who is considering it.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | None |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Classes were very challenging and final grades are based on only one final test or paper. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Administration helped if there was any problems but you are pretty much on your own to figure out the school and the city. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Location was perfect and the rooms were very big. Only complaint of housing was the condition the rooms were in when I arrived and the general upkeep of it. Internet was terribly slow for a while and the washer/dryers didn't work well. The location however was right near a metro station and it was fun building to live in. (Katerine Kollegiet) |
* Food: |
Each room has its own kitchen with 2 burners and no oven. Everything worked fine. The school offers good food but not meal plan, just pay there. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The school did a good job having the international students interact with each other but a poor job on integration with the Danish students. Still, I got very accustomed to the Danish culture and was one of the biggest highlights of my experience. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
The school does nothing to help out with medical issues. It was very hard to see a doctor and took me over 2 weeks. Healthcare is free under Danish law so that was one plus of it. |
* Safety: |
Extremely safe city. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Copenhagen is an extremely expensive city. Even if you try and watch your budget, costs will still be higher than almost every other program. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $300 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Don't eat out much and try and cook at home if you have a kitchen Plan trips early Set up a budget before going |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
Learning Danish helped get around the city and understand the culture. Since most people speak fluent English, it was not needed often to communicate. |
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Intermediate |
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? | High School Spanish |
How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | Talk with the locals or other students in your class. You learn much faster talking than just reading and writing. |

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I knew how expensive it was going to be and made a budget beforehand.
