Unforgettable Past Review

CSU: Guyana Faculty-led Study Abroad Program
I learned first hand of how we as Americans are so fortunate. It humbled me in many ways.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The overall educational experience was great and one that I will never forget |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The first room we had moved into wasn’t that great and up to par but once we expressed our concerns we were promptly moved to better rooms |
* Food: |
The food was okay , the only issue was that we were repeatedly eating the same food/dish which was chicken curry. I wish we could have been exposed to more options. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Sometimes we felt apart and there were times when we weren’t. It was all a learning experiencing. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
On a trip to one of the villages the nurses at the local clinical spoke to us about the healthcare system within the country and how the Citizens went about healthcare and it’s accessibility. There wasn’t any necessary vaccines that we needed to get before arriving. |
* Safety: |
The safety was pretty good but that’s only because we were told to stay in groups and we also always had a Guyana local with us. We never made ourselves prone to getting pick pocketed or anything worse . My advice is to always listen to the director of the trip and do just as my group did. In Guyana they can tell a local from a tourist , never put yourself in a position to get harmed. Don’t be scared either because there is nothing to worry about , just be aware. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
Guyana has a special place in my heart and I will always love to revisit and experience more . |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | I spent about $200 which wasn’t bad |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Nearly Native or Trail BlazerCraving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.' |
