Rewarding Experience Past Review
By Damir K (International Relations and Affairs., Carleton College) for
DIS Copenhagen: Semester
The most important quality I gained in Denmark is open-mindedness. I learned to be more receptive to a foreign culture, as opposed to sticking to my comfort zone.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 6 months+ |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Workload and grading was satisfactory. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
My host family was living too far away from the city center. Maybe, you should try looking for places that are closer to where the DIS facilities are. Otherwise, students loose interest in a lot of activities that they would normally engage in. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
Compared to the United States, the food in Denmark was marvelous. It is a bit pricy though. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The field trip to a Mosque was an eye-opening experience. The study trip to Kosovo was not something students would prefer to do, but it was nevertheless great. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
The Danish state failed to provide my with a residence permit, and I couldn't not in turn access a doctor without going to the DIS administration first. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 300 Danish crowns. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Make sure to bring A LOT of money to Denmark!!! Otherwise you will have little fun. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
