Cooking meals on a budget was difficult. I ended up having a lot of pasta and chicken!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

The socialized healthcare system made it really easy to see a doctor when you were sick. You didn't have to worry about any copays and your GP was right down the street from where you lived.

* Safety:

So safe! Many of my friends' wallets were returned with everything in them when they lost them.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 250
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try to buy flights earl- momondo.dk was a good resource as well as kayak.com. Definitely pack a lunch most days! Buying food out is really expensive. Don't buy a lot of clothes because they have such high sales taxes. On anything that you buy that's more than 50$, get a VAT receipt so you can get money back at the airport on the way back to the US.

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How many hours per day did you use the language?

A Look Back

  • The city
  • Travelling
  • My friends I made (other abroad students)
* What could be improved?
  • The academics- some teachers
  • More food stipend money
  • Printers
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? It's pretty easy to not explore Copenhagen right away since you are living there for 4 months and think that you will always have time to. I would say to definitely get to know the city when you're there, especially when the weather is warmer/sunnier! 4 months flies by and you will have wished you saw more things in CPH.
