The library was pretty small, but you do have access to the Copenhagen Royal Library (although you won't find quite as much in English as in an American university's library). DIS has subscriptions to the main databases like JSTOR, so that's good.

On-site administration of your program

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was in Socialt Kollegium. The building is kind of getting old, but there's a little gym in the basement which is cool and you can use the laundry as much as you want. Living with Danes is awesome. I also have my own room and bathroom, which is nice.

I cooked for myself, but DIS gives you a stipend which lasted me up until the last week, which was great. When they feed you on study tours, the food is generally very good. Copenhagen is a very expensive city so eating out is pretty prohibitive. Don't be shocked to spend between 5 and 7 dollars on a cup of coffee.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Danes can be a bit reserved unless they're drunk, so if you're not so into the drinking culture, it can be a little hard to really make good friends. But everyone has a different experience. I made a few friends on my hall and I also had a visiting family, which was lovely.

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I don't actually have experience of Danish healthcare, but we students do have full access to it as Danish residents.

Copenhagen is generally a very safe city. Obviously, like anywhere in the world you have to be careful, but I've gone home late by myself and felt pretty safe. There are almost always people out and about in the city center.

Copenhagen is very expensive. I didn't go shopping too much, but you can expect to spend a lot of money. You get a food stipend if you're not living with a host family (or else the family will buy you what you need). If you plan it right you can go to museums on the days they're free (usually sundays or wednesdays). But if you're into night life, it can get pretty expensive.

I took Danish, but I rarely used it outside the classroom because our vocabulary was pretty limited and everyone here speaks English.
