Going Abroad Taught Me to Cherish What I Have Past Review
By A student (Biology and Biomedical Sciences, Santa Clara University) - abroad from 08/15/2015 to 12/13/2015 with
DIS Copenhagen: Semester
It was most definitely worthwhile. I learned to view the world with more open eyes and be less quick to judge; to always consider as many perspectives on an issue as possible; to live true to myself and pursue opportunities for the fun of it; to communicate across cultures; to be confident in my abilities to learn new skills and perform them effectively; and most importantly, I learned to cherish my relationships with people. After having traveled I have realized the importance of expressing gratitude towards those you care about and just maintaining healthy relationships in order to maintain a healthy spirit.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
All of my classes were exceptionally interesting on not to much of a work load. I definitely had plenty of free time to explore Denmark and the city and hang out with friends |

The DIS staff were always very helpful and friendly |

|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Danish people can be a bit difficult to approach, but you just need to put yourself out there and not be shy |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
Best healthcare system ever. I studied it in my program, and also went to the doctor once as a patient and the care was phenomenal. |
* Safety: |
Definitely always felt safe, even walking around the city at 3AM |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Copenhagen is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Be prepared to save up a lot of money to spend on social activities |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $150/week |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Cook your own food as much as possible and pack a lunch for between classes. Grabbing food in the city gets very expensive really quick |

How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
They encouraged it but did not really enforce it |

How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | Use it as a ice breaker with foreigners. You can share laughs about your awful pronunciations, but at the same time they will correct you and teach you some new phrases |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
