Understanding Copenhagen Past Review
By Micah Cohen (Rhodes College) - abroad from 01/21/2016 to 05/09/2016 with
DIS Copenhagen: Semester
I learned an enormous amount about Economics, my area of study, from my classes and professors. I also came to appreciate the history and beauty of the Danish capital, rediscovered my passion for biking, and enhanced my cooking skills. It was absolutely worthwhile.

In part this was my own doing, but I feel the program should have made more of an effort to house Kollegium students on floors with Danes. |

|
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I took fascinating classes in my major, from professors who are experts in their field. My favorite class was Scandinavian Welfare State, all about the workings of the Danish economy, taught by a former official of the Social Democrats party. Biking all over Copenhagen was incredible too, there is so much to see in this historical and beautiful city. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I was able to make my stipend card last until the end of the semester relatively comfortably. I was also able to afford a bike and various other outings. Mostly I saved my money so I could go on a long trip during the summer. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $100 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Do not spend your food stipend money on alcohol. Seriously, don't do it. I've seen people run out of food money this way. |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Nearly Native or Trail BlazerCraving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.' |
