A growth experience filled with fun, learning, and adventuring Past Review
By A student (Entrepreneurial and Small Business, Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/14/2017 to 05/13/2017 with
DIS Copenhagen: Semester
I learned how to be independent. That I really need meaning in my life, and part of that is because I lacked that in Denmark because I was having so much fun.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 6 months+ |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I was able to work in a hospital and get a lot of exposure that way. I also loved my core course in Biotechnology where I learned about everything that really encompasses the field. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Everyone was very helpful, when there was a tragedy, it was dealt with very respectfully and in an organized way. I lost my transportation card and they helped me through the process. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I loved where I loved, but I wish I got more exposure to Danish people. my kollegium did not have many Danish interactions, but the DIS students became very close. |
* Food: |
Hands down best food in Europe. I may be biased, but I loved it. Their pastries are to die for and exploring in the food world is so much fun because you wont find a bad place, just ones that are exceptionally better. It is very pricey though. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I met a few Danish people that I became friends with and that was really nice, but no one that I would text on a daily basis. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
i had no problems, but its also free |
* Safety: |
I have never felt so safe in a city before. I would still travel with people and my friend might have gotten ruffied in a bar once so just be careful with your drinks!! and also its a foreign country, dont get blackout. It happened to a few of my friends and taking care of those people are not fun. But on the bright side if you are out late, there is 24/7 bus service which is the best thing in the world. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
It had everyting I wanted. A program where I can travel, learn about biotechnology in an immersive way and not just in the classroom. Travel and have time to do so. And have the time to do fun and crazy things. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
its a hard city to live on a student budget. Its flipping expensive. I paid for the entire trip myself but wanted to indulge so I taught swimming in Copenhagen and had a remote job so I had an inflow of money. I managed myself really well though so I never felt that I was taking up myself by working or studying too much. But it is not too easy if you want to really have a full danish experience. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 250 because I traveled too |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Sometimes the program will pay for things you want to do, just ask. Also try and cook more often at home so you can save money for traveling. Also go to the DIScovery trips, they are worth the money. |
