Amazing study abroad experience!! Past Review

DIS Copenhagen: Semester
I learned a lot about how a socialist society works. I realized that they have the society they do because it is a country of only 6 million people, a number smaller than the population of almost half of the U.S. states. It was definitely worthwhile to visit a country that was very different from the U.S. in some ways, but similar in others.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I found that many of the professors weren't very clear on their expectations, which translated into lower grades than I expected. The course material was very interesting, and the professors were excellent and knowedgeable. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I stayed in a homestay, which I would 100% recommend. While they can be far outside the city, the experience you gain in living with Danes is invaluable. |
* Food: |
My host family was amazing at cooking! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I only felt integrated because of my homestay. I do not feel that I would have gotten very much exposure to the Danish culture if I had not stayed with a family. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
So safe in Copenhagen!! Definitely safer than the States. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Copenhagen is very expensive, but living with a homestay definitely decreased my costs. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
