How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
For being a study abroad program, I was consistently and constantly engaged in my academics, especially in new and interesting ways. The professors were mostly (3/4) all excellent teachers. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Very helpful, many available resources. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I loved my apartment and how far it was from the city. However, I was so excited to live in a kollegium (Mønten) and meet Danish students. The students were not at all interested in meeting with us, and the kollegium was not well run and did not provide any social opportunities and were never available when we needed help. |
* Food: |
You cook for yourself! Loved the experience, but they should give you much more for your food stipend. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Would have liked to meet more Danes. Loved taking Danish Language and culture, it made me understand and appreciate danish culture so much more. My danish host family also showed me all sorts of danish dishes and hygge! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
Easily accessible, and FREE! Excellent chiropractic care, I miss it l! |
* Safety: |
Extremely safe. As a young woman, I was completely comfortable taking public transit by myself in the middle of the night. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
Amazing place, cool culture, engaging academics, ability to travel Europe and still be engaged in academics |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Very easy if you cook for yourself - but SO expensive to eat out. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Cook for yourself as often as possible! Utilize the local Netto. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
Learned easy words to introduce ourselves,’order coffee, and checkout at the grocery store. It was a difficult language to learn and not spoken anywhere else, so this is about how much I expected to learn it. |
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Beginner |
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? | None |
How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | Use duo lingo, and order your food and checkout in danish! I used a lot of easy words in daily life, like: tak, undskyld |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Academic or LinguistYou went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you! |
Individual Course Reviews
Course Name/Rating: |
Cognitive Neuroscience of Consciousness |
Course Department: | Psychology / Neuroscience |
Instructor: | Claudia Carrera-Augustenborg |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | This course was challenging and yet so interesting. The topics we discussed in class plus our field studies had me thinking about this subject all the time, in and out of class. It got me even more interested in my major (neuroscience) and got at some fundamental questions of what makes us human. |

Neuroimaging of the Disordered Brain |
Course Department: | Neuroscience |
Instructor: | Julian |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | This class was not quite what we thought it would be. We learned more about the physics of how the machines work and what disorders exist rather than focusing on imaging. |
