By Anne Clifford (Wellesley College) - abroad from 08/20/2022 to 12/18/2022 with
DIS Copenhagen: Semester
Learned how to live independently, make new connections, travel abroad, and take classes that I couldn't take at Wellesley
Personal Information
| How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
| * Overall educational experience Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. | Had a great experience in Copenhagen and I thought my classes were appropriately challenging for an abroad program |
| * Host Country Program Administration On-site administration of your program | Helpful and available |
| * Housing: How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? | Loved living with other DIS students in a residential community |
| * Food: | Cooked for myself in my apartment and really liked that independent experience |
| * Social & Cultural Integration: How integrated did you feel with the local culture? | Not super integrated just because DIS is a program for mostly American students and I lived with students from universities in the US |
| * Health Care: How well were health issues addressed during the program? | COVID testing was very easy and accessible in Copenhagen |
| * Safety: | Very safe! Always felt comfortable walking places by myself |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? | Yes Loved living in Scandinavia, meeting other students, and being able to travel all over europe |
Finances
| * Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget? (1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) | It is a very expensive city, and buying all your own food and paying for fun/activities is tough to balance. DIS provides a $600 food stipend that runs out quickly and is only meant to partially cover expenses |
| Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $20-50 |
| Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Shop at Netto and cook for yourself as much as you can! Also get the Too Good to Go app |
Language
| * Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

A Look Back
| * What did you like most about the program? |
 |
| * What could be improved? |
 |
| * What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Wish I had travelled more (weekend trips, etc) during the first part of the semester when COVID was better and it was warmer. Also took me a few weeks to figure out how to properly budget/food shop. |
Reasons For Studying Abroad
| To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. | The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
