The best semester abroad! February 27, 2026
By Sylvie S (Architecture, Wellesley College) - abroad from 08/16/2025 to 12/11/2026 with
DIS Copenhagen: Semester
I learned how to be independent: being abroad forced me to take care of myself, and it was my first time living alone. It was especially exciting to cook for myself and travel around Europe alone/with friends for the first time.

Review Your Program
|
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
My classes were interesting but the teaching tended to be a bit disorganized. |

* Social & Cultural Integration:

|
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I used the local healthcare system--it was a bit hard because the phone number for the hospital did not work for my eSIM, but I ended up being able to talk to a doctor over the phone. I would say healthcare was less accessible compared to at home, but still available. |
| * Safety: |
Copenhagen is the safest city I have ever been to! |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
DIS is a well organized program especially made for American students: they made adjusting to life abroad very simple and easy to navigate, but I also never felt constrained by the program. Overall I think they did a wonderful job and I would recommend DIS to anyone thinking of studying abroad! |
Finances
|
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
The experiences I chose personally ended up being on the more expensive side (traveling on weekends, etc.) |
| Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | It depended, but ~$50 during an average week in Copenhagen, but definitely more if I was traveling. |
| Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Staying in hostels, booking tickets early, eating cheap. |

The Academic or LinguistYou went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you! |
