By (Data Science and Psychology, Wellesley College) - abroad from 01/17/2026 to 05/14/2026 with

DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Living and experiencing a new city/country + planning and traveling logistics (e.g. where to get hotels, how to book flights, attractions, etc...)

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes I took weren't conceptually hard rather there's a lot of reading and self-study you have to do. biggest thing is that you're doing a lot of group projects or writing essays, and discussion posts depending on your class.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The programs was very organized and it was easy to find resources and get questions answered.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was in a very nice apartment that I shared with a roommate. We get a commuter card and the complex is right outside a bus stop.

* Food:

Copenhagen is really expensive. The food is definitely one of the weaker points. The program gave us a 600 dollar (USD) stipend for groceries, so you can definitely stretch it out. Eating out is the most expensive part. You cannot go anywhere without spending a minimum of 20 USD per meal.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

If I had spent more time in Denmark going to events or participating in city acitvities I feel like I would have integrated more. I did play volleyball for a bit with a local club and the girls were very welcoming, however. Most people in Denmark still prefer to speak Danish, but otherwise it's quiet easy to integrate regularly.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

DIS was really good about telling you exactly where to go to the clinic and how the reimbursment works for insurance. Even at the clinic too they explain to you quiet well. No need for any extra vaccines.

* Safety:

So safe. I've walked back at 2-3am in the morning and have felt completely safe. There aren't many people out, and the ones that are out are usually not suspicious or anything.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I experienced so much abroad, and this program's flexible schedule not only made it awesome to get to experience Copenhagen and Denmark, but gives you time to explore other areas and countries as well.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Going out and walking about for activities to do is the least expensive. However many museums and activities require a decent amount of money so just be prepared for that.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 150 - 200+
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? recycle your water bottles at grocery stores to get discounts on groceries!

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • StudyTours + professors/classes
  • Organization/Accessibility
* What could be improved?
  • Food and Transportation Coverage
  • integration/opportunities to interact with local students
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Just how expensive Denmark is/what areas were expensive (e.g. food). The weather -- at least during the Spring semester, the cold is vicious and seasonal depression is a possibility.
