DIS Stockholm is the best! Past Review
By Kate (Washington University in St. Louis) - abroad from 01/11/2020 to 03/12/2020 with
DIS Stockholm Semester
I loved my study abroad experience, and Stockholm felt like home. I gained friendships, I learned a lot in my classes, and I experienced what it is like to live in country with a different language and culture.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The teachers are great and truly care about the material. I found the academics to be less rigorous than my home university, but still challenging. DIS Stockholm has small class sizes (my biggest class was 15 students). I enjoyed the interactive classroom environments because discussion was frequently incorporated into lectures. |
* Host Country Program Administration

* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in a studentboende and it was a great experience. The building was modern and clean. |
* Food: |
DIS gave us cards to use at local grocery stores in Sweden. This was helpful, and allowed us to not spend too much money eating out all the time. DIS also has a cafe in the building where you have classes that has delicious, authentic food for really reasonable prices compared to many other places in Stockholm. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I met a few local students living in my housing. However, you have to make an effort to meet Swedes if that is something that you want out of your study abroad experience. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Stockholm is one of the safest cities in the world. I never felt uncomfortable on public transportation or walking around the city by myself. This was true both during the day and at night, especially if you are with a group of friends. There's always a risk of pickpockets, but I never heard of any one experiencing this issue. Be cautious in the most touristy areas, but this would be more of an issue in the summer months. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I highly recommend DIS Stockholm. Sweden is an amazing place. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

A Look Back

|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I would have spent more time in Sweden on the weekends instead of trying to get to other places in Europe. Our program was cut short due to COVID-19, and I regretted not spending more time in Stockholm. |

The Academic or LinguistYou went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you! |
