Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

A majority of the out of class work was reading and a group project. The work load was very similar to here in the states. A majority of the lecturers used power points which we were all very familiar with.

On-site administration of your program

This program did not really have one main program Administrator, but two, Jette and Helle. They were amazing! They were always willing to listen to our suggestions and understood that we had a limited amount of time in Copenhagen. They always encouraged us to experience as much of the Danish culture as we could and they were very eager to get to know each of us and to make this trip worth while.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in a Kollegium, which is similar to an off campus dorm. I had my own bedroom and bathroom and shared a kitchen with the other students on my floor. I was provided with sheets, a comforter, a pillow and pillow cases and towels. The kitchen was stocked by the students who lived there so the only thing I needed to purchase was food. At first I was a little apprehensive about living there because I was one of only 3 American students living in the whole complex, and I was the only American on my floor, but after a few weeks I learned to love it. The Danish students were very welcoming and were always eager to get to know me and offered my their help whenever I needed it. The only down side was the transportation. My Kollegium was kind of far from the rest of the DIS students and from the Nursing school. Transportation back to my housing at night was the main problem. The busses stopped running after a certain time and the only way back was to take the Metro. Riding the Metro wasn't the problem, the problem was having to walk about 10 minutes, alone and in the dark back to my housing if I ever went out. I strongly encourage the residents to get a bike in Copenhagen. I had one for the last 3 weeks and it made my life so much easier and it really makes you feel like a local.

The food we were provided on the study tours was always satisfactory. Several times we were taken to very nice restaurants and I was surprised and pleased with the large budget allowed for meals.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My favorite non-academic aspect of my trip was spending time with the Danish students. In particular we arranged for them to make us a traditional Danish Christmas dinner and in return we cooked them a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The two evenings were fantastic and we got to know each other on a more personal level. The trips to the beach and the lazy afternoons in the park sharing a bottle of wine and crackers are also on the top of my list! Of course the trip to Amsterdam was great as well!

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
