DIS Summer in Scandinavia
I genuinely feel like my whole view on the world and other people has been opened up. It was so amazing meeting people I would have never known otherwise, and getting to know how every person is cool and unique in their own way.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 1 month - 6 months |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I absolutely loved the Danish emphasis on experiential learning. I was able to explore new ideas and discuss them openly with professors and classmates, which opened my mind tremendously. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Hvidovre Hospital Kollegium was great because the few of us who lived there got very close, and we were able to spend time with the Danes. However, I'm not sure that I would necessarily recommend it to someone looking to study abroad in Copenhagen because the lengthy commute partially took away from my ability to be in the city and explore. |
* Food: |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt like I really got a feel for Danish culture and values! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I always felt completely safe. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Copenhagen is very expensive. If you literally only ate groceries you bought from the store, you could survive off of $100 a week, but if you have to buy any food outside of that, it will add up. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $200 |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

A Look Back

|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Danish people dress cooler than I will ever be able to keep up with! Bring warm clothes and tons of layers, and you DEFINITELY don't need to bring wedges or heels to go out at night. Sneakers and booties all the way. |
