My expectations were met. The program was great. Although you don't get to know everyone in the program but a few that lives in your housing and in your classes, I had a great time. I loved how DIS hosts social events for all "DIS" and University of Copenhagen students at the Studenthaus. The SRAs at the housings were very helpful and even great friends! The visiting family program was great for summer students or semester students that don't want to commit in "host" family. You get a taste of the Danish culture yet still have the freedom to go out and experience the city and Country with your fellow study abroad friends or New Danish friends. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Denmark is a very safe city. The housing could be better, it is not perfect but good enough ! It is a bit old and you don't have a full kitchen but it is livable since living in Denmark is very expensive! |
* Food: |
Eating out in Denmark is very expensive and cooking can get quite dull... because most college students will only cook Pasta and Pizza and it gets kind of boring. The best meals I had was with my visiting family when they cook traditional Danish food. The hot dogs stands, pizza and Bagels by Stroget are the best "college" lunch. Denmark is not a place for good "food" but it is a place for good dessert with amazing bakeries and of course Beer. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Your social experience is how much you want to put into it. I had great experience traveling with DIS with the study tour in Amsterdam. I also made a few weekend trips around Europe with a few friends I met during the program. Remember to emerge yourself in the culture when you are there, don't just hang out with Americans! Danish people can be shy when you first meet them but they are so sweet once you get to know them, plus it is always nice to have a local to show you around! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Denmark is very safe, public transportation gets you around everywhere! I would bring some over the counter medicine for cold/sinus/flu from home because it is hard to buy medicine in Denmark unless you go see a doctor or has a prescription. You can't even buy cough medicine or throat spray without a prescription. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

Comments: | The course was very interesting. I loved it. Anne is very passionate and knowledgeable at what she does. The study tour was eye opening, there is no other opportunity to study Human trafficking and prostitution like this. Anne did not only show one side of the subject but every different persecutive and in different parts of Europe - Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands etc... The study tour in Amsterdam was a great experience, visiting the NGOs and interviewing a former prostitute that worked at the red light was very enlightening on the subject of prostitution. |
