Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
One of the main reasons to go attend this great summer school in China was to advance my Chinese language to a new, higher level. I was able to chose between beginners and higher level. All the teachers were extremely helpful and gave me a great new boost to my language skills! |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Administration was over my expectations! Supervisors and university staff was extremely helpful. Either with documentation on visas or getting around the city, help was always received. You have phone numbers of everyone in the program, so instant help is guaranteed. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Housing encourages you to explore Chinese culture and interact with people living in the dorm. I.e. You can always meet with some international or Chinese students who are cooking food in the kitchen. Dormitory was very safe with the coded doors, which makes it really convenient if you happen to come back late. All the rooms are tidy and equipment works well. The best thing is that almost every room has TV, so you can watch Chinese shows before going to sleep! |
* Food: |
Food in the canteen was good and the menu was changed every day. However, you should not miss the opportunity to go out to eat too as it provides you with more interaction with locals and variety of food choices! Remark: Food is extremely cheap! The best food can be found and bought from the street kiosks/sellers and small cozy eating places. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
You will be able to visit all the famous places around while You are in Dalian and Beijing. Starting from Great Wall, Tian An Men Square to Beijing Opera concert and Zoo park! Every tour gave me a good chance to practice Mandarin language and discover new things on China's culture. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
City in general is quite safe. As for health. At first when You have just arrived to China you need to give some time to adapt to the environment and its local delicacies. So be aware of that.However, later on it is no longer the case. Supervisors and staff members will always help you in case of any problems related to your health. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Language acquisition improvement? |
I was encouraged to use acquired Chinese language skills every day. Starting from the morning classes to fun activities in the city (restaurants, markets, cultural places). My advice is: if you are really up to learn Chinese language, this school provides a lot of opportunities to apply and practice your skills! |

A Look Back

|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Overall, it was an incredible experience. In a month time I have tried so many things, that I can't even track the number... For everyone my suggestion is to be open minded, try to make most of every opportunity given (one of many examples: visiting companies in Beijing and Dalian provides you a great opportunity to ask questions on business in China..). |
