The program's biggest strength are the student mentors who help you acclimatize when you arrive. The program was well design to help us understand every facet of Chinese life and also their history. The faculty at Dalian University was excellent too. We were given a taste of Chinese culture through activities ranging from Caligraphy to Tai-Chi.

Beijing and Dalian are as good as any European or American cities so there is nothing to worry about.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Lot and lots of reading and writing to start with. But all that reading and writing will be futile if you cannot speak with a native, so make friends and be in regular touch. If everybody followed the earlier tip it can prevent wars too!
