* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Duke in London is taught by Duke professors. Because of this there were no major cultural differences. We were taught to evaluate theater in a new way. Most theater classes have you read and analyze plays, but the program fee allowed us to have tickets to 28 amazing plays. We got to see everything that we read and compare the written plays to the productions, as well as compare genres and theater through the ages. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Strengths: We were completely immersed in the theater culture and even got to go on an overnight trip to Stratford Upon Avon Weaknesses: I just wish I had a whole semester in London. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
London is expensive, and we had no kind of meal ticket at all. We were pretty much on our own, so the price added up really quickly! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Stratford Upon Avon was AMAZING. Seeing the Royal Shakespeare Company in person was so rewarding as a theater student! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
We were in London when the riots started. This was obviously something that could not have been foreseen by the program administrators. They cancelled us going to two plays as a precaution. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
