Emerson College: Kasteel Well: The Netherlands
I think it was worthwhile because since the location was less than ideal, it forced me to visit many different cities that I might not have had the chance to see if I was studying in a bigger city.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The grading system was the same as it is at the Boston Campus of Emerson College, so I knew what to expect in terms of grades and the overall academic experience. The only problem I had with it was that as a Junior, I found myself having to take courses that did not relate to my major and therefore did not count toward any credits that I needed to fulfill for graduation. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Dulcia Meyers was wonderful and inspiring as an educator as well as the program director. She is very knowledgeable regarding the countries we visit as well as the Netherlands and she made everybody feel comfortable enough to ask her directly for help or advice. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Living in the castle was a wonderful experience, however the town that it is located in did not offer much to do and it was not ideally located to an international airport. |
* Food: |
I'm a vegetarian and fount it challenging to find food to eat at the castle. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I went to the castle with Emerson students, so it was easy to find people to relate to. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
For medical problems, we would go to a local doctor's office, but language barriers would make things complicated. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
Language acquisition improvement? |
In the Netherlands, everybody I interacted with spoke English. I learned a few things here and there traveling to other countries on my own. |
