The Girl Who Stared at Moats Past Review

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My study abroad was absolutely worthwhile. I wouldn't change a thing. The experience of traveling alone or with a few friends to places I never thought to visit (Copenhagen, what?) and places I have always wanted to go (Paris!!) was awesome. I learned so much, both in and out of the classroom, and had ridiculous amounts of fun besides.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed the academics at Kasteel Well. I found them more challenging than the classes on the home campus and I think I performed better because they asked for more. I felt like the teachers and students were both more engaged because the teachers made us think.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Castle.

* Food:

I got a little tired of sandwiches, and a few of the dinners (fish nuggets, for example) weren't great-- but the staff was great and the salad bar was always solid.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Kasteel Well was incredible. The castle provided the perfect place to take classes and study because it was so calm and isolated. It was a really important contrast to the weekends. The weekend travel is so incredible, but also exhausting. My best advice is just go. You can get anywhere if you care enough. If you want it, make it happen. But never forget balance. Balance is key.
